THE SAILING YACHT MARKET
Henry Craven-Smith
Senior Broker London
The irst few months of 2016 coupled with the inal quarter of 2015 have proved to be a very active period for the Burgess sailing yacht leet with the successful closing of the sales of UNFURLED, GANESHA 1 and TWIZZLE. The American market, which has traditionally had the largest share
in this sector, is showing its strength
with a signiicant surge of new purchase enquiries. The sale of TWIZZLE was a major milestone with ive competing bids, two of which eventually progressed to contract and deposit stage (both through Burgess). Looking ahead into 2016, we
are forecasting an interesting year. The sailing yacht sector holds good value for now but prices will no doubt begin to irm as inventory decreases.
ASIA
Richard Lambert
Managing Director for Asia & Senior Broker
It has been an exciting time for Burgess
in Asia over the last 12 months. Having launched at the Singapore Yacht Show in 2015 we celebrated an incredible irst year after completing the sale of the stunning 60m (196.9ft) Amels superyacht EVENT.
Burgess continues to represent the largest leet of superyachts for charter in Asia and as the region’s wealth proile could support a leet ten times the current size for both sale and charter, we are embracing the exciting opportunities ofered in this new market and intent on continuing to grow our leet.
With the team now irmly established, Burgess Asia is also poised to take advantage of the recently introduced regulatory changes by the Thai government opening up its waters to foreign lagged yachts to facilitate charter in South East Asia. This winter alone saw no less than seven charter yachts from the Burgess Central Agency leet available in Thailand and the Maldives.
Burgess was delighted to headline
the inaugural Thailand Yacht Show in February showcasing four of the largest boats based in South East Asia. Continuing this success, Burgess will once more be in attendance at the Singapore Yacht Show, 7 – 10 April 2016 in One˚15 Marina.
