THE ANATOMY OF AN ICE-CLASS EXPLORER
2
Long range and 3 self-supporting
STEEL can cruise in remote areas of the globe while being able to self- sustain for over 30 days. She comes complete with a transpaciic plus range while cruising at a steady
12 knots plus oversized tanks and provisioning capacity.
Wildlife spotting
STEEL’s forward signal mast
is also itted with a crow’s nest: an ideal viewing platform for whale watching, dolphin spotting or as a conning position when in ice lows.
5 An inviting interior STEEL’s gentleman’s club-style
main dining room provides
a cosy retreat in a hostile environment. Three-metre high ceilings and oversized windows allow for picture perfect views while ine dining is paired with irst class service.
4 Safety check
The main requirement for ice class certiication
is hull strengthening and this includes a reinforced forward area. STEEL’s bow shield is an impressive 24mm thick at the waterline which helps resist the efects of constant ice collision. Additional engineering and even the clever use of engine- heated water is used to prevent ice-cold water and slush causing thermal shocking to the mechanical systems.
