Favourite cruising ground
Thailand and Myanmar. We have recently completed three winter seasons in Thailand. There is a
very special combination here of local culture, friendly people, excellent food, settled weather and of course spectacular and varied scenery. Myanmar to the north ofers a huge archipelago of untouched islands with crystal clear waters, jungle covered islands and stunning beaches.
Favourite anchorage
Phang Nga Bay. The majestic limestone sheer-faced islands never fail to take your breath away. We tend to explore the wonderland of hidden beaches and caves, mangrove swamps and ishing villages by tender and jetski. For the best beach, it would have to be on Ko Rok Nok. An island surrounded by the most incredibly beautiful coral reef and clear turquoise waters.
Recommend a restaurant
One of the great things about Thailand is that wherever you go you can ind simple yet tasty food. My favourite Thai restaurant would have to be Black Ginger in The Slate resort, Nai Yang Beach though.
Any fun facts?
The French version of the TV program Survivor was ilmed on Ko Rok Nok. Alex Garland’s The Beach was ilmed at Maya Bay, a small island to the south of Ko Phi Phi.
Best time to visit
The North East monsoon runs from November to April and January, February and March ofer the best dry weather with settled NE winds, little or no swell and long sunny days.
Top tips
So many: Phuket night market; a Muay Thai ight; scuba diving in the Similan Islands; a beach BBQ and snorkelling on Ko Rok Nok; a tender tour of Phang Nga Bay’s spectacular limestone karsts and a swim into the Emerald cave on Ko Muk (swim through a 50m dark tunnel before emerging into a cave which is open to the sky. It has its own white sand beach with soaring clif sides covered in jungle).
